Rescue Stories

You can’t change a dog’s past, but you can rewrite their future

Bo

Adopted 2022

Bo was left at a local shelter at only three years old after his original owner died. It was initially hard to find the right home for Bo. He was reactive and protective of his people, so he needed to be an only dog with a family that understood his needs. He’s also a big boy — 50lbs! Bo did find his perfect family, and they absolutely adore him. He is 50lbs of pure Boston love, even though his size and big bark can be intimidating. Once you get to know Bo, and he knows you, you’ll be best friends forever.

Brisket (fka Buddy)

Adopted 2025

Brisket spent the first year of his life locked in a barn. When he came into rescue, he didn’t really know how to be a dog. He learned a lot from his foster family and even started to make lifelong friends with other dogs! After getting to know him while in rescue, we realized what Brisket wanted most of all was an owner who was devoted to him, and we found her! Brisket’s adopter dotes on him and takes him everywhere with her. And he couldn’t be happier!

Fiona

Adopted 2024

Fiona is a tiny but mighty little lady! Once Fiona was placed with her fosters in 2023, it became clear she was kept in a crate constantly and hadn’t been potty trained or cared for in any way. Her patient fosters helped Fiona acclimate and know she was safe and loved. Fiona was adopted by her foster family in 2024 and now she regularly falls asleep in her dad’s arms!

Tyson

Adopted 2024

Tyson was passed to many different homes before he was even two years old. He was eventually surrendered to rescue by owners who couldn’t care for him, but wanted to be sure he found a loving home. Tyson was placed with a foster who immediately adored him — so much so that she adopted him.

Chula

Adopted 2024

Chula was already 12 years old when she came into rescue. She had spend 10 weeks in a shelter in California and been walked three times total. Chula came to rescue with muscle atrophy, terrible skin issues, and was extremely reactive to other dogs. Thanks to CLBTRF supporters, we were able to get Chula’s muscles strong again, put her on a prescription diet, and found a skincare regimen that fixed her issues. After a year of searching for her forever home, we finally found the perfect family for Chula. She’s now living her best life, and at 15 shows no signs of slowing down.

Betty (fka Pippa)

Adopted 2025

Hard to believe but this little soul had 3 previous homes before landing in rescue. Betty was found wandering in a rural area and never claimed at the shelter, then was adopted out and then abandoned in an apartment when owners moved. Someone in the complex took her in, gave her to their adult son as a Christmas present, but the son decided they didn’t have the means to care for her and listed her on NextDoor. CLBTRF brought Betty in, vetted her, and she was adopted into a loving home.

Ruby

Forever Foster 2022

Ruby was rescued from a backyard breeder who had severely neglected her. She was blind, had ground down teeth (from trying to escape the cage she was kept in), nails so long they curved around towards her paws, and had a massive hernia that took up about 1/3 of her body. Because of CLBTRF’s amazing supporters, we were able to get Ruby’s hernia repaired and provide her with a loving home for the first time in her life. Ruby unfortunately had underlying medical conditions we couldn’t predict, and she passed away peacefully in her foster’s arms in 2022.

Captain Beans

Adopted 2025

This 1.5 yr old needed more time than his mama had for him. She wanted the best for him and chose rescue to help him get vet care and the best possible adoptive home! Once fully vetted, Captain Beans was adopted, and now has boxer and bulldog sisters. Not to mention his human brother & sister!

Margo and Meisha

Adopted 2023

Margo and Meisha were surrendered to rescue by their owner, who had to leave the country to work in an active war zone. This mother daughter pair needed to stay together, so we found them a home where they could be cared for and loved as a bonded pair.

Sammy

Adopted 2022

Sammy was found in an Arkansas ditch in the middle of summer 2021. He was transported to Alabama and then to his foster home in Atlanta. He had surgery to remove a very large tumor, and even got cataract surgery! His foster mom then flew him out to Seattle where he got to live the rest of his life happily. Sammy had the best summer ever in Seattle, with a mom who loved him and a gang of dogs he could chase and play with all day. A few months later, though, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and passed away peacefully, surrounded with love from his human and dog family.

Jessie

Forever Foster 2023

Jessie was a tiny senior BoChi (Boston-Chihuahua). Weighing just 11 lbs, she was underweight and neglected by her owner. Jessie had been advertised for FREE on social media... which is a dangerous practice that CLBTRF works hard to prevent
Jessie’s myriad health issues included: Extra-long nails, reactive allergic skin, desperate need for a dental, severe untreated arthritis, and she was long overdue for a full veterinary workup. She saw our opthamologist who diagnosed corneal ulcers, corneal edema, and cataracts. Jessie also had healed lacerations that on her rear flank and front shoulder, and a piece out of her ear missing
As a rescue we believe in taking in dogs regardless of health or age- This is what rescue is all about. Jessie was a Forever Foster due to her extensive health needs.  Sadly, her little body could not overcome all the neglect she had suffered for an extended time. She slipped away in her sleep after being in rescue just a few months. A very sweet girl that deserved so much more.

Spanky

Adopted 2024

Spanky was three months old when his owner impulse bought him as a Christmas gift. She’d never had a dog let alone a Boston. She quickly found out a Boston puppy is more than a cute lil dog! Overwhelmed, the owner surrendered to rescue. Spanky’s foster family adored him immediately and saw him through training and all his vetting. At 10 months of age, when his vetting was completed, Spanky was adopted by his foster family!

Dolly

Adopted 2025

By 14 months old Dolly had already had 2 homes- both with people unfamiliar with the breed.
Her initial owner was in her 80’s and got her as a puppy and could not manage with her high level of energy & activity.
The first owner met a lady at Home Depot and later contacted her to see if she’d like to purchase and take her in - and the person agreed. Dolly’s second owner quickly found out a Boston puppy requires a lot of attention. Sadly Dolly was often kept in a shower or a crate because the new owner was elderly and couldn’t meet her activity needs. We were contacted and into rescue she came! Fostered & adopted!
Dolly landed in an experienced Boston home and is loved to the moon! She’s off going on walks, and to Palm Springs on the plane for some sun when it’s chilly here! Dolly you hit the jackpot!

Maximilien

Adopted 2018

14 years old and discarded like trash by his family. Blind & deaf, once Maximilien was a lil old man his family no longer cherished him. He got little to no vet care, had rotted teeth, untreated arthritis and was abandoned by his family. He was temporarily fostered to see if he could blend with his foster home’s dogs, which he easily did.
It was planned for his family to pick him up after this trial period, but they never came back.
Maximilien was officially taken into rescue, and to the vet. He had a heart murmur, but his teeth were rotting, so we moved forward with a dental. He did well but it was a tough recovery. Sadly 4 days afterwards, he passed in his sleep. Neglect had taken a toll on his health. We gave Maxie the best care we could in the time we had with him, but sometimes it’s just too late.
